Chesapeake Utilities Corporation celebrated a significant milestone on Monday, October 28th, with the grand opening of its new renewable natural gas (RNG) facility at Full Circle Dairy (FCD) in Lee, Florida. This cutting-edge facility represents a major investment in sustainable energy, utilizing dairy manure to produce pipeline-quality RNG, a clean and renewable fuel source.
The $22 million project marks Chesapeake Utilities’ strategic commitment to advancing the entire energy delivery value chain. The facility, which began producing RNG in June 2024, is expected to generate an average of 100,000 dekatherms of renewable natural gas annually. This translates to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, capturing and redirecting over 1,100 metric tons of methane each year.
The captured methane, a potent greenhouse gas, is converted into RNG through a sophisticated process. This clean energy source will then be injected directly into the existing natural gas pipeline network, powering thousands of homes in the region. The project is expected to have the same environmental impact as powering approximately 3,500 homes for an entire year.
