Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has experienced significant growth in passenger numbers during the first quarter of FY2024, exceeding 13.4 million passengers. This remarkable increase reflects CSMIA’s leading position in the aviation industry and showcases the confidence travelers have in its world-class facilities and services.
The quarter commenced strongly with 4.3 million passengers in April, followed by an increase to 4.7 million in May, representing a 7.9% month-on-month growth. June saw a sustained demand for air travel from Mumbai, with 4.39 million passengers. In total, CSMIA recorded 59,775 domestic air traffic movements (ATMs) and 21,519 international ATMs, signifying a 4% increase compared to the same period last year, solidifying its crucial role in the aviation industry.
May 2024 emerged as the busiest month with 4.7 million passengers, while May 18th, 2024, saw the highest single-day traffic with 163,166 passengers. Compared to Q1 FY2023-24, CSMIA witnessed a 7% rise in overall passenger traffic, highlighting the growing demand for air travel in Mumbai.
Among domestic destinations, Delhi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad were the top three, accommodating over 6.9 million passengers. Internationally, Dubai, Singapore, and London were the most popular, with Dubai emerging as the top destination with over 0.61 million passengers. The top five international destinations saw over 1.5 million passengers, while the top three domestic destinations accounted for over 3.4 million passengers.
IndiGo, Air India, and Vistara dominated both domestic and international sectors. IndiGo held over 50% of the domestic market, handling 4.99 million passengers this quarter. The Middle East, Asia Pacific, and Europe were the busiest regions for CSMIA, with the Middle East contributing to 49% of passenger traffic in April and 47% in May and June 2024.
