Chhaya Animal Hospital, operating under the registered trust People for the Respect and Care of Animals (PRCA), successfully hosted an interactive session titled “Embrace Compassion – Giving a Voice to the Voiceless” at Kenilworth Hotel, Kolkata. The event underscored the remarkable work of Chhaya Animal Hospital in providing care, shelter, and rehabilitation to injured, abandoned, and abused animals throughout West Bengal. The event saw the attendance of several distinguished personalities, including former cricketer Mr. Dilip Doshi; Mr. Raju Bharat, CMD of Kenilworth Hotels; Mr. Utsav Parekh, Chairman of SMIFS Capital Markets Limited; National Award-winning filmmaker Mr. Gaurang Jalan; renowned tabla maestro Mr. Bickram Ghosh; dancer and social activist Ms. Alokananda Roy; Dr. V. R. The gathering brought together animal lovers, caregivers, and supporters from civil society and government to explore the hospital’s extensive services and its impact since its inception in 2008. Spanning 40,000 square feet, the hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including 66 well-ventilated kennels, an operation theatre, and solar-powered amenities, providing optimal care for over 100,000 animals to date. Ms. Sharda Radhakrishnan, Founder Trustee of Chhaya, shared inspiring insights into the organization’s mission. “Our goal has always been to offer a safe haven for street animals in need and to provide them with the care they deserve,” she said. “We operate with a no-kill policy and are dedicated to treating and rehabilitating animals, including those with severe conditions like cancer or amputation.” The event showcased presentations on Chhaya’s ongoing initiatives, including their innovative Gaushala for injured cows and horses, and the comprehensive CNVR (Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return) program, which successfully neuters around 200 dogs each month. Acknowledging the invaluable support from the community, special recognition was given to Mr. Utsav Parekh and Mr. R. Chamaria for their instrumental roles in the establishment and expansion of the hospital.
