A new studio composed of former staff from Chibi-Robo! developer Skip has announced a spiritual successor called koROBO. The new game, developed by Tiny Wonder Studio, is a Kickstarter project and will be launched on July 22nd, running for a month. koROBO promises to be a nostalgic experience for fans of the original Chibi-Robo! while introducing new gameplay features. The game will follow the story of Tom, a young boy who receives a tiny robot as a gift. This robot, like its predecessor, will complete tasks around the house, helping Tom with his homework and playing games. This time, however, the robot can interact with neighbors in Tom’s apartment building and even meet other tiny robots.
koROBO utilizes a similar battery mechanic to the original Chibi-Robo!, but with a solar panel modification, the robot can charge using sunlight. This new game also features upgraded abilities, allowing players to unlock time travel in addition to the classic gliding ability. The developers have hinted that these abilities will be crucial to overcoming the energy crisis plaguing the world of koROBO. The game’s premise, reminiscent of the original Chibi-Robo! from 2005, aims to bring back the charm and heartwarming narrative that captivated gamers over a decade ago. The original Chibi-Robo! was a platformer for the GameCube that involved navigating a tiny robot through a house, performing tasks for the family. The game was a success at launch but subsequent games in the series did not meet the same level of popularity. After the failure of Chibi Robo! Zip Lash for the Nintendo 3DS in 2015, the series was abandoned. koROBO represents a potential revival of the beloved Chibi-Robo! franchise, offering a new take on familiar gameplay while introducing exciting new features.
