The Chicago Bears may not be done making roster moves as the free agency period winds down. Brad Biggs of The Chicago Tribune reports that there’s a chance the Bears could cut edge rusher Dominique Robinson and wide receiver Velus Jones Jr.
Robinson, a fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, played in every game during his rookie campaign, finishing with 30 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He appeared in 11 contests this past season, logging just 12 tackles and a half of a sack.
Jones, a third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has not lived up to expectations. He played in 12 games during his debut season, but tallied only seven catches for 107 yards and a score. He also carried the ball nine times for 103 yards while reaching the end zone once. This past year, Jones played in 14 contests and made even less of an impact, catching four passes for 20 yards while rushing for 51 yards on eight attempts.
The Bears had high hopes for Jones, but he has yet to deliver. With the addition of wide receiver Keenan Allen via trade this offseason, opportunities for Jones may be even harder to come by next season. However, the Bears could find a unique way to implement Jones into the offense under new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.
The Bears’ decisions regarding Robinson and Jones will likely be made in the coming weeks and months.
