China achieved a significant milestone at the Paris Games on Saturday, clinching its 300th Olympic gold medal with a decisive victory in the women’s table tennis team event. The Chinese team showcased their prowess by defeating Japan 3-0 in the final, securing their fifth consecutive gold medal in the women’s team competition. This triumph comes just a day after the Chinese men’s team also claimed gold, highlighting their remarkable dominance in the sport.
“Each of us went all out today and played every position well,” expressed Sun Yingsha, the world’s No. 1-ranked player.
Meanwhile, South Korea secured the bronze medal in the women’s team event with a commanding 3-0 victory over Germany, marking their first medal in the team competition since the 2008 Beijing Games.
China’s dominance in table tennis is undeniable, as they swept all five Olympic gold medals in Paris, including victories in the men’s and women’s singles tournaments, as well as the mixed doubles event. Since table tennis was introduced to the Olympic program at the 1988 Seoul Games, China has captured a staggering 37 of the 42 gold medals awarded in the sport. This consistent excellence reaffirms their position as a global powerhouse in table tennis.
