China’s Ambassador to Thailand Celebrates 75th Anniversary with Focus on Strong Bilateral Ties

On the evening of September 24, 2024, the Chinese Embassy in Thailand hosted a grand reception to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The event was attended by over 2,000 guests, including prominent figures from Thai society, such as Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, President of the Thai National Assembly Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, and several vice premiers and assembly presidents.

The highlight of the evening was a heartfelt speech by the Chinese Ambassador to Thailand, Han Zhiqiang. He reflected on the recent third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, emphasizing China’s significant achievements since its founding. Ambassador Han highlighted the country’s continuous progress, innovation, and its growing positive image on the global stage. He emphasized that China’s high-quality development offers valuable opportunities for Thailand.

Ambassador Han addressed the positive trajectory of China’s economy, noting its recent recovery with GDP surpassing 125 trillion yuan and contributing over 30% to global economic growth. This economic upswing has led to increased investment from Chinese companies in Thailand, with over 850 Chinese companies now registered at the Chinese Embassy in Thailand. This influx of investment has boosted Thailand’s export capabilities, increased foreign exchange earnings, tax revenues, and created valuable job opportunities. Ambassador Han expressed optimism about China’s continued economic recovery in 2024, envisioning new avenues for Thailand’s economic resurgence and contributing to global economic growth.

Beyond economic collaboration, Ambassador Han underscored the deep-rooted ties between China and Thailand, describing the two nations as “good neighbors linked by mountains and rivers” and “close relatives sharing blood ties.” He emphasized the enduring friendship between the two countries, strengthened by their mutual support over the past three years. The recent implementation of visa exemption policies has facilitated deeper exchanges in various sectors, enhancing cooperation in tourism, law enforcement, and trade—crucial steps towards regional integration.

Looking ahead, Ambassador Han expressed his commitment to working closely with all sectors in Thailand to foster stable development, safeguard peace, and elevate bilateral relations to new heights, bringing benefits to both nations.

Echoing the sentiment of strong bilateral ties, Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, President of the Thai National Assembly, acknowledged the remarkable development China has achieved under the leadership of the Communist Party. He highlighted the strengthening bilateral relationship, establishing a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Thailand deeply values China’s support and assistance. With the introduction of visa-free access on March 1 of this year, Thailand looks forward to expanding cooperation with China and working closely with the Chinese Embassy to promote sustainable development in their bilateral relations.

President Wan extended his best wishes on the occasion of the 75th anniversary, expressing hopes for prosperity and strength for the Chinese people. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with China to enhance stability in East Asia and jointly promote regional development.

The reception commemorating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China serves as a testament to the strong and enduring relationship between China and Thailand. It showcases the mutual commitment to collaboration, economic growth, and regional stability that defines this vital partnership. As the two nations move forward, the foundations laid through their longstanding partnership promise a future filled with continued prosperity and shared success.
