China’s relentless pursuit of global dominance has manifested itself in a disturbing manner: the placement of ‘Trojan horses’ within the United States’ critical infrastructure. This insidious strategy, orchestrated by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), has effectively neutralized the protective distance that America has long enjoyed.
The CCP’s multifront political warfare campaign has systematically eroded America’s security. Chinese cyber penetration has infiltrated our critical infrastructure, communications systems, transportation networks, and even healthcare institutions. The 2015 hacking of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) compromised the personal data of 22 million Americans holding security clearances.
China’s influence extends beyond cyberspace. The country’s fentanyl trade has wreaked havoc on American communities, claiming the lives of tens of thousands each year. Beijing’s deliberate inaction on this deadly drug empowers it to weaken its greatest adversary, while the United States remains largely unresponsive.
The CCP’s economic warfare has also taken its toll. China has strategically targeted American manufacturing and commercial sectors, decimating industries and costing the nation millions of jobs and billions in revenue. The United States has become dangerously dependent on China for a wide range of products, including pharmaceuticals and components for advanced military systems like the F-35 fighter jet.
The consequences of China’s deep penetration and relentless attacks are undeniable. The United States finds itself in an unprecedented position, facing an enemy operating from within. To counter this formidable threat, the US government must swiftly implement a comprehensive strategy that includes:
* Relearning political warfare and establishing a dedicated entity responsible for coordinating and executing countermeasures.
* Implementing reciprocity standards to restrict Chinese land ownership near US military bases.
* Safeguarding American research institutes from Chinese infiltration and exploitation.
* Holding American proxies accountable for aiding the CCP’s agenda.
* Consistently raising the issue of PRC human rights violations, recognizing their importance to the CCP’s survival.
* Protecting Chinese Americans from intimidation and harassment by CCP agents.
While the conflict in Ukraine demands attention, it would be a grave mistake to ignore the escalating threat posed by China. The CCP has been waging political warfare against the United States for decades, and Ukraine is merely a distraction. Beijing will continue to exploit any weakness or complacency, making it imperative for America to confront this challenge head-on. As a retired U.S. Marine officer and former diplomat, I urge my fellow Americans to recognize the gravity of this situation. The safety and security of our nation depend on our collective commitment to combating China’s Trojan horses and safeguarding our critical infrastructure.
