Chirag Paswan, the Union Minister of Food Processing Industries and head of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), found himself on the receiving end of an e-challan for exceeding the legal speed limit while traveling in Bihar. The e-challan was issued after Paswan’s car was detected speeding through a newly installed e-detection system at a toll plaza in Bihar. He was traveling on a national highway from Hajipur to Champaran.
This incident highlights the increasing use of technology for traffic enforcement in Bihar. The Bihar Transport Department and traffic police have implemented a system of e-detection systems at 13 toll plazas to automatically detect violations of the Motor Vehicle Act. In just a week, from August 7 to 15, over 16,700 e-challans worth ₹ 9.49 crore were issued. Out of these, 7,079 were issued to vehicles registered in Bihar, while 9,676 were issued to vehicles registered in other states.
In other news, Chirag Paswan was recently unanimously re-elected as the president of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) for a five-year term at the party’s national executive meeting in Ranchi. Looking ahead to the upcoming assembly polls in Jharkhand, Paswan hinted at potential alliances. He stated that the LJP (Ram Vilas) may contest the elections either in alliance with their national alliance partner, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), or independently.
Paswan emphasized that the party is open to both options, depending on the strength of their organization in the state and the possibility of a respectable seat-sharing arrangement. In the 2014 elections, the LJP (Ram Vilas) had formed an alliance with the BJP for the Jharkhand assembly polls, contesting the Shikaripara seat. The upcoming assembly polls in Jharkhand are scheduled to take place later this year.
