In the wake of ‘Love’s’ closure at the Mirage, questions have arisen regarding the future of ‘Ka,’ one of Cirque du Soleil’s long-running productions in Las Vegas. Rumors of a potential shutdown have been circulating, prompting speculation that ‘Ka’ may be the next to go. However, Cirque has swiftly responded, dispelling these rumors and reaffirming its commitment to the show.
‘Ka,’ which has been captivating audiences since its debut in 2004, has apparently been performing better than ‘Love,’ which had struggled to maintain consistent attendance post-COVID. Nonetheless, it falls short of the impressive performance rates of ‘O’ and ‘Mystere,’ which consistently operate at around 90% capacity.
Despite its performance metrics, ‘Ka’s’ contract with MGM Resorts extends through November 2026, having been extended by two years during the COVID-19 pandemic. Terminating the show prior to the expiration of the contract would necessitate a buyout negotiation between MGM Resorts and Cirque. While such a scenario is not entirely out of the realm of possibility, given the precedent set by ‘Love’s’ closure, a well-informed source has dismissed the idea of ‘Ka’s’ imminent closure, stating that the show is ‘just fine.’
Cirque du Soleil maintains a presence on the Las Vegas Strip with five other productions: ‘Mystere,’ ‘O,’ ‘Michael Jackson One,’ ‘Mad Apple,’ and ‘R.U.N.’ ‘Zumanity’ closed its doors in 2019, and ‘R.U.N.’ met the same fate in 2023.
Despite the closure of ‘Love,’ Cirque du Soleil remains optimistic about its future in Las Vegas. The company boasts a record-breaking year in 2022 and anticipates continuing to entertain audiences with its portfolio of shows while exploring new ventures.
