CITGO and MDA Partnership Raises Record-Breaking $904,075 at Annual Golf Outing

The CITGO Lemont Refinery and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) recently celebrated a remarkable achievement at their 28th annual Driving for a Cure Golf Outing. Held at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club on August 27, 2024, the event broke all previous records, raising an astounding $904,075 to support MDA’s vital mission.

This year’s outing saw the participation of 130 companies and 416 golfers across all four courses at Cog Hill. The event’s success is a testament to the unwavering commitment of CITGO employees, marketers, retailers, vendors, and contractors, who demonstrate a deep passion for supporting the MDA partnership.

Since its inception, the annual Driving for a Cure Golf Outing has raised over $9.2 million for MDA. These funds play a crucial role in advancing research, facilitating innovative clinical trials, and accelerating the development of revolutionary treatments for Muscular Dystrophy.

Jim Cristman, Vice President and General Manager at CITGO Lemont Refinery, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received, emphasizing the inspiring commitment of individuals towards the MDA partnership.

Tracy Denton, Senior Vice President of Development Partnerships at MDA, echoed Cristman’s sentiments, commending CITGO’s steadfast support over nearly four decades. Denton highlighted how CITGO’s dedication has set a standard for strengthening the community and empowering families living with neuromuscular diseases.

The partnership between CITGO and MDA extends beyond the Driving for a Cure Golf Outing. This year alone, the combined efforts of the CITGO – MDA Shamrock Bowl and Driving for a Cure events have raised over $1 million. All funds raised will be directed towards accelerating research, advancing care, and advocating for the neuromuscular community.
