Clash over Amravati Rally Venue: Independent MLA Protests as Union Home Minister’s Event Prevails

Independent MLA Ravi Rana held a protest at the Science Core Ground in Amravati on Tuesday after the Zilla Parishad (ZP) revoked its earlier permission for him to hold a rally there on Wednesday. The ZP cited security concerns for the revocation, as Shah is scheduled to address a campaign rally at the same ground in support of BJP candidate Navneet Rana.

Rana, a bete noire of Kadu, is pitted against Congress candidate Balwant Wankhede and Dinesh Bub of the Prahar Janshakti Party in the Amravati Lok Sabha seat, which she won in 2019 as an independent candidate. Voting in Amravati will take place on April 26 in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

Kadu, the founder of the Prahar Janshakti Party, which supports the Shinde-led government, has fielded his own candidate from the Amravati Lok Sabha seat. He has accused the Shinde government of revoking the permission given to his party to use the site, a claim the Chief Minister has denied.

Shinde has stated that priority is given to rallies of ‘big leaders’ and has sought to pacify Kadu after speaking to him. He emphasized the importance of sportsmanship and expressed hope for a ‘respectable solution’ to the issue.
