Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb Urges Union Support for Biden, Home Projects

Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb joined a chorus of Democratic officials in Washington, D.C., urging the North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) to support President Joe Biden’s reelection. Bibb delivered a speech at the group’s legislative conference, highlighting Biden’s commitment to creating good-paying union jobs and investing in infrastructure projects. He met with members of the Biden administration to advocate for a high-speed rail line connecting Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Dayton, as well as funding for climate change initiatives.

Bibb emphasized the importance of union members as a key constituency for Democratic candidates. He praised Biden’s policies, particularly those implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, which provided funding for infrastructure projects installed by union members. He also highlighted the bipartisan infrastructure law, which is creating jobs in the Columbus area and supporting projects in Cleveland, such as eliminating lead water lines, improving transit infrastructure, and expanding broadband access.

Bibb warned against the dangers of restoring Donald Trump to the White House, suggesting that it would threaten cuts to programs that working and middle-class Americans rely on. His message resonated with conference attendees, who see public works projects as opportunities for union growth.

Bibb concluded by expressing optimism for the future, despite the challenges faced. He emphasized the need for affordable housing, sustainable infrastructure, and skilled labor, and expressed confidence that these challenges can be transformed into opportunities for building a brighter future in cities nationwide.
