Clorox Partners with Manufacture 2030 to Drive Supply Chain Sustainability
In a significant move towards achieving its ambitious sustainability goals, The Clorox Company (NYSE: CLX) has announced a strategic partnership with Manufacture 2030 (M2030). This collaboration aims to empower Clorox’s suppliers to meet their carbon reduction targets, contributing to Clorox’s overarching goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
The partnership leverages M2030’s comprehensive platform, designed to assist suppliers in effectively measuring, managing, and reducing carbon emissions. This initiative will enable Clorox to drive decarbonization throughout its value chain, starting with its strategic raw materials and packaging suppliers, which collectively represent over half of Clorox’s Scope 3 emissions.
“As part of Clorox’s efforts to foster a cleaner world, we have a responsibility to ensure our suppliers are equipped with the capabilities necessary for forging their own sustainability journeys,” stated Niki King, Chief Sustainability Officer at The Clorox Company. “Climate action is a complex endeavor that requires companies to engage all parts of their supply chain in order to meaningfully reduce their environmental impact.”
The program, which will track key energy data, will be progressively implemented across multiple suppliers. This collaborative approach reflects Clorox’s commitment to sustainability across its entire business ecosystem.
Eva Choe, Chief Procurement Officer at The Clorox Company, emphasized the alignment of values between Clorox and its suppliers: “Our value chain is comprised of organizations that share Clorox’s commitment to doing the right thing, which is why for the last 15 years we’ve implemented a business partner code of conduct that emphasizes sustainable business practices.” She expressed confidence that M2030’s platform will provide suppliers with the tools to develop effective action plans, achieve substantial carbon reductions, and foster industry-wide collaboration.
M2030’s platform enables suppliers to track their progress regularly and share it with other customers using the platform. Suppliers will also have the ability to export compatible data for submission to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a global system for managing environmental data.
“We’re delighted to partner with The Clorox Company and enable their suppliers to reduce their environmental impact,” said Martin Chilcott, Manufacture 2030 Chief Executive Officer. “Through the M2030 platform, Clorox suppliers can measure their emissions, manage their reduction efforts, and share progress with their customers. We look forward to collaborating with Clorox and the wider consumer goods industry to reach supply chain carbon reduction targets.”
This strategic partnership is a key component of Clorox’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals as outlined in its corporate IGNITE strategy. By driving emissions reductions throughout its supply chain, Clorox is making substantial strides towards achieving its science-based targets for 2030 and its long-term goal of reaching net-zero GHG emissions by 2050.
