A cloudburst struck Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, on the morning of June 23rd, triggering a series of landslides and creating a flood-like situation. This incident comes after weeks of heavy rainfall in the northeastern state, though the situation had shown improvement in the preceding two days. According to officials, there was no rain forecast for Sunday.
The cloudburst occurred around 10:30 am, resulting in landslides across various parts of Itanagar and its surrounding areas. The Disaster Management Department reported a flood-like situation along several sections of NH-415.
Numerous vehicles were stranded on the highway, and several homes sustained damage. In response to the situation, the Itanagar administration issued guidelines urging residents to avoid venturing into rivers and landslide-prone zones, and to relocate to safer areas. Seven designated relief camps have been established by the district administration.
