**Clovis, Calif. (KFSN) — Months-long road closures in the City of Clovis have been extended, impacting businesses and residents. The closures, which began in January and were initially set to reopen on April 16, have been pushed back to late June. The affected roads are Shepherd Avenue between Fowler Avenue and Sunnyside Avenue, and Sunnyside Avenue between Perrin Road and Shepherd Avenue.
The closures are part of the construction of the next phase of Lennar’s Heritage Grove development on the north side of Shepherd Avenue. The project includes the construction of 588 homes, which will bring additional traffic to the area. Once complete, the project will include wider roads and safety improvements.
The closures have caused a significant decrease in business for local businesses, such as Deli Delicious and Clovis Meat Market. Residents have also expressed frustration with the detours, which have made it more difficult to navigate the area.
The city of Clovis has attributed the delays to PG&E, which had a scheduled work plan in January that was not completed until April. PG&E has stated that they are working with the city and the home builders to minimize delays and complete the work safely and quickly.
As of Tuesday, the affected area remained a muddy mess with construction equipment and crews working on site. City leaders and PG&E have urged residents and businesses to be patient during the ongoing construction and road closures, which are expected to continue until late June.
