CNOOC Limited Commences Production at Shenhai-1 Phase II Natural Gas Development Project

CNOOC Limited, a leading Chinese offshore oil and gas producer, has announced the commencement of production at its Shenhai-1 Phase II Natural Gas Development Project. Located in the Qiongdongnan Basin, a prolific natural gas region in the northern South China Sea, the project boasts a significant milestone in tapping into the region’s vast gas reserves. The project is situated in an average water depth of approximately 900 meters and features a new fixed production platform along with 3 centralized subsea wellheads. A total of 12 development wells are planned for commissioning.

CNOOC Limited expects the project to reach peak production of 162 million cubic feet of natural gas and 3,931 barrels of condensate per day in 2025. This achievement highlights the company’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the deep-water oil and gas exploration and development sector.

Chairman of CNOOC Limited, Mr. Wang Dongjin, expressed his pride in the project’s success. He stated, “The project has successfully overcome the world-class challenge of deep-water high-pressure oil and gas reservoir development. It witnesses effective large-scale conversion of reserves into production from the ‘South China Sea trillion-cubic-meters-level gas region’, and provides stable supply of clean energy for the economic and social development of South China.”

CNOOC Limited’s commitment to developing new quality productivity in marine energy is evident in its continued exploration and development of deep-water oil and gas resources. The company’s efforts contribute significantly to the high-quality development of China’s offshore oil industry.

CNOOC Limited holds a 100% interest in the Shenhai-1 Phase II project and serves as the operator. This project reinforces CNOOC Limited’s position as a key player in the global energy market and its contribution to China’s energy security.
