The second edition of the ‘KGiSL presents Coimbatore Open’ is set to tee off on Wednesday, August 17, at the par-72 Coimbatore Golf Club (CGC) course. The four-day event, with a prize purse of one crore rupees, features a strong field of 126 golfers, including 123 professionals and three amateurs.
Last year, Delhi’s Harshjeet Singh Sethi stunned the field to claim his maiden PGTI title at this very tournament. The 22-year-old is back with his sights set on a repeat performance, but he’ll face stiff competition from a field that includes some of India’s top golfers.
Veer Ahlawat, the current TATA Steel PGTI Ranking leader, is a contender, as are Manu Gandas, Karandeep Kochhar, Chikkarangappa, Aman Raj, and Shaurya Binu. Coimbatore will be represented by local professional Sidhartha Sharathram and amateur J Vignessh.
Adding to the international flavor, the tournament features a strong contingent of foreign golfers, including N. Thangaraja and K. Prabagaran from Sri Lanka, Jamal Hossain and Badal Hossain from Bangladesh, Italy’s Michele Ortolani, Czechia’s Stepan Danek, Subash Tamang from Nepal, Sukhraj Singh Gill from Canada, Si In Kim from South Korea, Makoto Iwasaki from Japan, and American Dominic Piccirillo.
Course conditions are expected to be challenging due to the good monsoon and strong seasonal winds. Several changes to the layout further enhance its testing nature, according to R. Gopinath, the CGC President.
The Coimbatore Open is a significant event on the PGTI calendar, and the organizers are thrilled with the support from sponsors KGiSL and Prima Donna.
“As we enter our third-year partnership with PGTI and the CGC, it’s truly remarkable to see the Coimbatore Open being recognized as a key event in the itinerary of the nation’s leading golfers,” said Prassadh Shanmugam, CEO of KGiSL.
“Prima Donna is delighted to support the PGTI Coimbatore Open for the second year running. I wish all participants the very best of luck in tackling the conditions and putting on a good show over this week,” said Ashwin Chandran, Chairman and Managing Director, Prima World.
The tournament promises exciting competition as the CGC course and windy conditions test the skills of India’s best golfers.
“The CGC always produces a fascinating contest as the course and the windy conditions test the skills of the top Indian professionals. We look forward to yet another exciting week of golf,” said Uttam Singh Mundy, CEO, PGTI.
The Pro-Am event is scheduled for August 18.
