Coldplay Mumbai Concerts Spark Ticket Frenzy, Server Crash, and Scams

The upcoming Coldplay concerts in Mumbai have ignited a frenzy among Indian fans, leading to overwhelming demand and technical challenges on ticketing platforms. BookMyShow, the official platform for ticket sales, experienced server crashes and a massive influx of traffic on Sunday as tickets went on sale for the British band’s highly anticipated performances.

The demand was so immense that BookMyShow added a third show in Mumbai on January 21, 2025, just hours after fans expressed disappointment over long virtual queues and server issues. Despite the added show, fans faced difficulties securing tickets, with waitlists reaching as high as 842,745.

BookMyShow implemented a queueing system to manage the overwhelming demand and addressed issues caused by suspicious and malicious traffic within minutes, causing a brief delay but ensuring minimal disruption for genuine fans.

However, the chaotic situation also triggered concerns about potential scams. BookMyShow and its live events division, BookMyShow Live, released a joint statement cautioning fans about unauthorized platforms selling fake tickets at inflated prices. They emphasized that BookMyShow is the only official platform for ticket sales and that ticket scalping is illegal in India.

Coldplay’s Mumbai concert marks their first visit to India in eight years. Their previous performance in Mumbai was part of the Global Citizen Festival in 2016. The Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 will commence on October 30 at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, and will conclude on August 31, 2025, with a show at the Wembley Stadium in London, the UK.
