As the Indianapolis Colts prepare for the 2024 NFL Draft, owner Jim Irsay will be noticeably absent. Irsay has been recovering from recent health issues, including a severe respiratory illness and a drug overdose incident in December 2022.
Irsay’s absence is due to his ongoing recovery and adherence to his doctors’ orders. He emphasized the importance of getting back to 100% health and following the recommendations of his medical team.
Despite his physical absence, Irsay will be virtually connected to the draft room. He plans to defer to General Manager Chris Ballard in all decision-making. Irsay has traditionally taken a more hands-off approach in draft preparation, observing and trusting the expertise of his team’s management.
While some NFL owners may have a more active role in the draft, Irsay has stated that he prefers to trust the judgment of his staff. He believes that Ballard is capable of making the best decisions for the team, and he will support those decisions fully.
