Columbia University Students Protest Israel’s War in Gaza, Officials Threaten Police Intervention

Columbia University students involved in an ongoing protest against Israel’s military actions in Gaza have reported that university authorities have threatened to call in the National Guard and police to dismantle their encampment. The students have denounced these threats as “cowardly” and “blatant intimidation” in a statement released by Columbia Students for Justice in Palestine (formerly Columbia University Apartheid Divest). They have pledged to remain resolute in their support for Palestinian liberation.

Governor Kathy Hochul visited the university campus on Monday and subsequently informed reporters on Tuesday that she has no immediate plans to deploy the National Guard in response to the protests.
