Common, the esteemed Chicago emcee, has announced an exciting development regarding his upcoming album. In a recent MusiCares panel, he revealed that he has been collaborating with the legendary producer Pete Rock, and the music they have crafted together is exceptional. Common believes it ranks among the finest work of both their careers.
During the panel, Common unveiled this exciting news. He was asked to select his three greatest albums, and he expertly chose ‘Be’ and ‘Like Water for Chocolate’ as his top two. However, he hesitated before naming his third, explaining that his upcoming album contains some of his favorite music ever created.
“Y’all gon’ think I’m just talking,” he admitted, “But [I want to pick] this new Pete Rock joint. I’ma see y’all when I come back, whenever I’m back, and y’all can tell me if I’m bullsh*ttin’ or not.”
Common’s passion for this upcoming album is evident. He shared that the untitled project has received glowing reviews from those who have had the privilege of listening to it. “It’s in my top,” he affirmed. “I’ve had a couple people coming in saying, ‘Yo, this is one of your best albums.’ So I’m excited about it.”
While the wait for the new album continues, Common acknowledged the significance of his past work and chose ‘Resurrection’ as his third greatest album.
Throughout their careers, Common and Pete Rock have collaborated sparingly. They joined forces on ‘Tha Bizness’ from Common’s 1996 album and ‘Verbal Murder 2’ from Rock’s 1998 release. Their most iconic collaboration remains ‘The B*tch In Yoo,’ a diss track aimed at LL Cool J that showcased Common’s lyrical prowess.
Despite their different career trajectories, Common and Rock’s proven chemistry promises to deliver another musical masterpiece. Common’s upcoming album is highly anticipated, and the prospect of his collaboration with Pete Rock has generated immense excitement among hip-hop enthusiasts.
