Former Kent County Commissioner Robert Womack is organizing a community prayer vigil outside Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital on Monday, April 22, at 8 p.m. for a 17-year-old boy named Riley who was struck by a patrol car while running from police. The event aims to provide support for Riley and his family during this difficult time.
Womack emphasized that the gathering is not intended as a protest and asked attendees to be respectful of other patients and families visiting the hospital. He also requested that attendees avoid blocking entrances and exits.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with Riley’s medical and family expenses.
This incident comes after another recent case in which a 25-year-old Black man named Samuel Sterling was fatally struck by an unmarked police vehicle in Kent County. The investigation into both incidents is ongoing.
