The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is thrilled to announce the return of Condor flights to Thailand, marking a significant milestone for the nation’s tourism industry. The German leisure airline will operate four weekly flights from Frankfurt to Bangkok and three weekly flights to Phuket, offering enhanced connectivity and travel options for German vacationers. This move signifies a positive step towards the full recovery of Thailand’s tourism sector, especially with the strong demand from German travelers.
Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, expressed her excitement about the reinstated routes, stating, “The resumption of Condor’s Frankfurt-Bangkok and Frankfurt-Phuket flights is a welcome sign for Thailand. We look forward to welcoming more holidaymakers from Germany to immerse themselves in the unique travel experiences offered across the kingdom.”
The celebration of Condor’s Frankfurt-Bangkok flight (DE2362) was marked with a traditional Thai welcome ceremony at Suvarnabhumi International Airport. This inaugural flight was greeted by prominent figures in tourism and business, including TAT executives and representatives from the Frankfurt office.
The inaugural Frankfurt-Phuket flight (DE2368) landed at Phuket International Airport the day prior, where a special welcome event took place. Condor is utilizing an Airbus A330neo for these routes, featuring a 310-seat configuration that includes 30 Business class seats, 64 Premium Economy seats, and 216 Economy seats.
Condor’s flights join the existing travel options between Germany and Thailand. Thai Airways International operates daily flights on the Bangkok-Frankfurt and Bangkok-Munich routes, while Lufthansa also provides daily services to Munich. This increased air connectivity enhances convenience for German travelers seeking to experience the beauty and cultural richness of Thailand.
According to TAT’s data, forward bookings from Germany for the October to December 2024 period have surged by 22% compared to the same period last year. This positive trend is attributed to upcoming long weekends and the New Year’s 2025 Countdown celebrations. Thailand’s appeal to German tourists continues to grow, evidenced by the impressive recovery of German tourist arrivals in 2023.
In 2023, Thailand welcomed approximately 729,163 German tourists, recovering 87% of the pre-pandemic numbers from 2019. This influx generated revenue of 43.18 billion Baht, representing an impressive 83% rebound. These figures demonstrate the resilience of the Thai tourism industry and its strong appeal to German travelers.
Looking ahead, Thailand anticipates generating around 65 billion Baht in revenue from approximately 979,000 German tourists in 2024, signaling a complete recovery to pre-pandemic levels. The resumption of Condor’s flights to Thailand not only enhances travel options for German tourists but also signals a positive trend for the Thai tourism industry as it continues to recover and thrive. The combination of increased air connectivity, growing demand, and Thailand’s world-renowned attractions paints a bright future for the country’s tourism sector.
