Deathbed Confession Leads to Discovery of Bodies in 24-Year-Old Missing Person Case
A deathbed confession has finally shed light on the disappearance of a mother and daughter in West Virginia who had been missing for nearly 24 years. Larry Webb, a former inmate at the Mount Olive Correctional Complex, provided a detailed account of how he killed Susan Carter and her 10-year-old daughter, Natasha, in 2000.
According to Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney Benjamin Hatfield, Webb accused Susan Carter of stealing cash from his residence, leading to a heated argument. In order to avoid detection for killing Susan, Webb also murdered Natasha.
Despite extensive efforts by law enforcement, the case remained cold for years. However, in December 2021, the FBI Pittsburgh office announced renewed efforts and offered a reward for information leading to the resolution of the decades-old case. The reward was later increased to $20,000 in September 2023.
In 2022 and 2023, authorities executed search warrants at Webb’s home and discovered additional evidence. Webb was indicted for first-degree murder in October 2023, but the bodies of Susan and Natasha had still not been located.
Following his recent confession, Webb revealed that the bodies of his victims had been buried in his basement for days before he dug graves on his property in Beckley. Hours after Webb’s death on Monday, investigators uncovered suspected human remains in his backyard.
The investigation is ongoing, and the remains are currently being examined by the coroner’s office. This discovery has brought closure to the families of Susan and Natasha Carter, who have been searching for answers for over two decades.
