Conforto Homers Against Mets, Giants Edge New York 5-2

Michael Conforto, drafted 10th overall by the New York Mets in 2014, homered against his former team on Monday, aiding the San Francisco Giants in a 5-2 victory. Rookie pitcher Keaton Winn had another impressive outing, striking out six in six-plus innings.

In the second inning, Nick Ahmed hit a two-run single, while Matt Chapman added a two-run double in the third, giving Winn ample run support. The young right-hander impressed, allowing only four hits and walking one batter before Ryan Walker relieved him in the seventh.

Pete Alonso’s solo homer in the fifth marked the Mets’ first run in two days, following a 10-0 loss to the Dodgers on Sunday. Despite Camilo Doval’s wild pitch allowing an additional run, he secured the save, retiring Alonso on a grounder and getting DJ Stewart on a groundout.

Jose Quintana of the Mets allowed five runs on seven hits in five innings, while Luke Jackson returned from the injured list for the Giants.

In other news, veteran slugger J.D. Martinez is expected to join the Mets’ Triple-A affiliate in Syracuse on Tuesday, potentially making his Mets debut on Friday against St. Louis. Tylor Megill and David Peterson are progressing in their recoveries from injuries, while Sean Reid-Foley has returned from the injured list.
