Congress and AAP Finalize Seat-Sharing Agreement for Haryana Assembly Polls

The Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have reached a seat-sharing agreement for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections, scheduled for October 5th. Sources within the parties revealed that AAP has agreed to contest on five seats, with the official alliance announcement expected on Monday. The move marks a significant development in the build-up to the elections, with both parties aiming to defeat the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

AAP leader Raghav Chadha confirmed that negotiations between the two parties have been progressing positively, emphasizing their focus on unity and fulfilling the needs of Haryana’s population. He clarified that AAP will not proceed with the alliance if it does not result in a mutually beneficial outcome.

Earlier, AAP had sought to contest on 10 seats, but the Congress was initially willing to offer only seven. However, the final agreement settled on five seats for AAP, demonstrating the importance of the alliance to both parties.

The Congress and AAP are both part of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), a coalition of opposition parties aiming to challenge the BJP in the upcoming national elections. They have previously entered into seat-sharing agreements for Lok Sabha polls in Delhi, Haryana, and Gujarat.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, AAP contested in Haryana with only one candidate, Sushil Gupta, who lost to the BJP’s Naveen Jindal. However, Gupta has recently stated that AAP is prepared to contest all 90 assembly seats in Haryana independently, emphasizing their commitment to the state.

The alliance between the Congress and AAP in Haryana is expected to be a significant factor in the upcoming elections. The two parties are hoping to capitalize on their combined strength and appeal to voters, particularly those seeking an alternative to the BJP.
