The Congress has announced its list of candidates for eight of the nine Lok Sabha seats in Haryana, with seven of the candidates having close ties to former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Deepender Singh Hooda, Hooda’s son and Rajya Sabha MP, will once again contest from Rohtak, while former Union minister and Congress general secretary Kumari Selja will be the candidate from the Sirsa reserved seat. In a surprising move, the Congress has fielded youth leader Divyanshu Budhiraja against former chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar from the Karnal Lok Sabha seat. The party has also replaced Shruti Choudhry with Rao Dan Singh from the Bhiwani-Mahendragarh Lok Sabha seat, a move that is seen as a change in strategy. From Ambala, the party has fielded sitting MLA Varun Choudhary, while former state minister Mahendra Pratap has been fielded from Faridabad. The Congress is still considering candidates for the Gurgaon seat, with actor-turned-politician Rajbabbar and former state minister Captain Ajay Singh being potential contenders.
