In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments regarding the “redistribution of wealth,” the Congress party has launched a scathing attack. The party asserts that Modi has failed to acknowledge that the top 1% of the population has amassed over 40% of the nation’s wealth from 2012 to 2021. Additionally, the Congress claims that 64% of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue is derived from the poor, lower middle class, and middle class.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh highlighted that the sale of public assets and resources over the past decade has primarily benefited one or two corporations, leading to increased inflation and economic monopolization. Ramesh emphasized that 21 billionaires now possess more wealth than 700 million Indians.
The Congress maintains that India requires accelerated economic growth that is significantly more inclusive and ecologically sustainable. The party believes that only an INDIA bloc government can deliver on this crucial triad.
