Under the Mahagathbandhan alliance, the Congress party in Bihar has been allotted nine seats to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. However, the party’s ticket distribution process has come under fire, with allegations that candidates with family ties or those who have recently switched from other parties have been prioritized over dedicated party members.
Out of the five seats for which the Congress has recently announced candidates, three have gone to individuals with family connections to senior party leaders. Akash Prasad Singh, the son of BPCC president Akhilesh Prasad Singh, has been named as the candidate for Maharajganj, while Anshul Abhijit, the son of former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, is likely to contest from Patna Sahib. On Samastipur (reserved) seat, Sunny Hazari, the son of former Deputy Speaker Maheshwar Hazari, has been given the party ticket.
The Congress party’s decision to field these candidates has drawn criticism from senior state party leaders, who allege that the party has sacrificed its interests to promote family members and friends. Kishore Kumar Jha, a senior party leader from Madhubani, expressed concern that the party’s ticket distribution has been unfair and that dedicated party workers have been overlooked.
The controversy surrounding the Congress party’s ticket distribution in Bihar has raised questions about the party’s future prospects in the state. Some party leaders have expressed fears that the party’s heavy reliance on dynastic politics and borrowed players could cost it dearly in the upcoming elections.
