Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi Condemns Baba Siddiqui’s Murder, Calls for Justice in Maharashtra

In a powerful statement, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi condemned the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) leader Baba Siddiqui, emphasizing the dire state of law and order in Maharashtra. Gandhi labeled the incident as “horrifying” and indicative of the state’s failing security measures. He extended his deepest condolences to Siddiqui’s family during this challenging time.

Siddiqui, a prominent politician with strong ties to Bollywood, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Bandra East, Mumbai, on Saturday evening. This incident occurred while the city’s police were on high alert for two annual Dussehra rallies. Adding to the seriousness, the murder took place just weeks before the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections in November.

The attack occurred near the office of Siddiqui’s son, Zeeshan Siddiqui, around 9:30 PM. Despite being rushed to Lilavati Hospital, Baba Siddiqui was pronounced dead due to his injuries. Zeeshan is a Congress MLA representing the Bandra West constituency.

Baba Siddiqui, a three-time Congress MLA, held the Bandra West seat from 1999 to 2014 and served as a minister in the Congress-NCP government from 2004 to 2008. After a 50-year association with Congress, he switched to the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction in February.

Known for his flamboyant style and strong connections in the film industry, Siddiqui was a well-known figure in Mumbai’s political and social circles. He frequently attended iftar gatherings alongside Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Sanjay Dutt, showcasing his influence and relationships.

In light of this tragic event, Rahul Gandhi’s call for justice and accountability from the Maharashtra government is especially significant. As the election season intensifies, Siddiqui’s murder raises serious concerns about state security and the potential for political unrest. The investigation into his death is expected to become a focal point in the coming days and weeks.
