Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 27, accusing him of failing to fulfill his promises and stifling democracy. Kharge, speaking to reporters in Guwahati, alleged that Modi’s slogan of ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’ (all together, development for all) had turned into ‘sabka satyanash’ (doom for everyone). He claimed that the PM had not delivered on promises of creating 20 crore jobs, returning black money, doubling farmers’ income, and building houses for all families.
Kharge also criticized the BJP’s patriotism claims, stating that the party had never fought for the country’s independence and had stolen the Congress’s legacy. He questioned the BJP’s claims of having brought India to independence in 2014 and accused the party of trying to scare everyone through the CBI and the ED. Kharge also lashed out at the BJP on the electoral bond scheme, alleging that companies were forced to donate through electoral bonds and that the party had done the same with MLAs of Opposition parties.
When asked, Kharge declined to end the suspense over who will be the Congress candidates from the Amethi and Rae Bareli parliamentary seats in Uttar Pradesh. He said, ‘Wait for a few days. The papers will come to me as I am required to put my signature. I will let you know then.’
