In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge advised the Prime Minister to seek votes based on the performance of his government over the last ten years, rather than indulging in hate speeches. Kharge shared the text of his letter on Twitter, highlighting Modi’s repeated lies in the election campaign.
Referring to a letter written by Prime Minister Modi to NDA candidates, Kharge stated, “I saw the letter written by you to all the NDA candidates about what they need to communicate to the voters. From the tone and content of the letter, it seems that there is a lot of desperation and worry in you, which is leading you to use language that does not suit the office of the Prime Minister.”
In his letter, Kharge challenged Modi’s claim that reservations would be taken away from SC, ST, and OBC communities and given to “our votebank.” He emphasized that the Congress party’s votebank includes all Indians, particularly the poor, marginalized, women, aspirational youth, labor class, Dalits, and Adivasis. Kharge pointed out that the RSS and BJP have consistently opposed reservations since 1947.
Kharge expressed concern that Modi’s repeated lies were not having the desired effect, leading him to urge his candidates to amplify them. He emphasized, “Repeating a lie a thousand times will not make it the truth.”
Stating that voters are intelligent enough to read and understand the Congress manifesto and its promised guarantees, Kharge invited the Prime Minister or his representatives to debate the party’s manifesto and the points they have made. He emphasized, “The party’s manifesto speaks of Nyay and how they will bring growth for all sections of society.”
