In a letter obtained by Fox News, Republican Congressman Chip Roy of Texas raised concerns about the potential implications of George Soros’s investment in Audacy, the second-largest radio company in the United States. According to previous reports, Soros has acquired a major stake in the media group and could gain effective control of over 220 radio stations nationwide. Congressman Roy expressed his unease with the Soros groups’ request to the FCC to approve a change in ownership without following the standard regulatory process. He emphasized the need for rigorous oversight to safeguard American radio stations from undue foreign influence, particularly given Audacy’s extensive reach across the country, including Texas’s 21st congressional district. Audacy owns a substantial portfolio of music, sports, and talk radio stations in 45 states, along with CBS Radio, which operates 11 news stations, including KCBS in San Francisco and WCBS in New York. Instead of following the customary petition for declaratory ruling procedure, Soros’s group has reportedly requested the FCC to exempt the process and postpone it indefinitely, suggesting that foreign stakeholders would be granted special provisional rights. Congressman Roy further noted that constituents had reached out to him expressing concerns about Soros’s clear intention to establish a significant presence in the American radio landscape. George Soros, a hedge fund manager known for his role in the 1992 British pound crash, ranks among the wealthiest individuals globally, with an estimated net worth of approximately $7 billion. His philanthropic endeavors have included donations exceeding $32 billion to various NGOs, charities, and political campaigns through his Open Society Foundations.
