The groundbreaking of the first US bullet train has officially commenced, connecting Las Vegas to California. Expected to be completed by 2028, the project promises to reduce travel time between the two cities, making the journey more convenient and eco-friendly.
Operated by Brightline West, the bullet train aims to alleviate traffic congestion and improve air quality along the 218-mile rail route. It will feature stops in Apple Valley and Hisperia, among others. These state-of-the-art trains, powered by electricity and offering zero emissions, are anticipated to reach speeds of up to 200 mph.
The Las Vegas to Rancho Cucamonga journey is projected to take just 2 hours and 10 minutes, significantly faster than the current four-hour drive. This high-speed rail system follows in the footsteps of Japan’s renowned Shinkansen, known for its impressive speeds of up to 320 mph.
In addition to providing a quicker and more environmentally friendly mode of transportation, the bullet train will generate thousands of jobs during construction and boost economic opportunities. It will also free up road space and reduce air pollution.
Brightline West currently operates a high-speed rail line between Miami and Orlando, capable of reaching speeds of 125 mph. Other notable fast trains in the US include Amtrak’s Acela, operating between Boston and Washington D.C. at speeds of 150 mph.
