Cooler Master has just unveiled a new fanless power supply (PSU) specifically designed to handle the power demands of NVIDIA’s next-generation flagship graphics card, the GeForce RTX 5090. The X Silent Edge Platinum 850W Fanless PSU is currently available on Amazon for $488, and its listing explicitly mentions support for both the current-gen Ada Lovelace-based GeForce RTX 4090 and the upcoming Blackwell-based GeForce RTX 5090.
While this could be an error, it’s highly unlikely given the importance of PSU manufacturers in ensuring their products can handle the power needs of the world’s fastest graphics cards. This is especially relevant after the 12VHPWR power connector issues encountered with the RTX 40 series GPUs.
Rumors surrounding the next-gen GeForce RTX 5090 suggest it will feature the GB202 Blackwell GPU, coupled with 24GB of next-gen GDDR7 memory on a 448-bit memory bus. Although exact power consumption is unknown, it’s expected to be comparable to the RTX 4090, potentially even higher, considering anticipated significant performance gains in rasterization, ray tracing, and DLSS4. This indicates the need for a capable PSU like Cooler Master’s offering to handle the power demands of such a powerful graphics card.
