The Coral Sea Marina in Airlie Beach, Queensland, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first marina in Australia to receive Sustainable Tourism Certification from Ecotourism Australia. This prestigious accreditation marks a turning point for both the marina and the Whitsunday region, showcasing their dedication to environmentally responsible tourism practices, especially within the breathtaking Great Barrier Reef.
Coral Sea Marina plays a pivotal role in the local tourism economy, hosting an impressive 80% of the Whitsundays’ on-water tourism experiences. With 52 commercial operators utilizing the marina, its impact on the region’s economic well-being is undeniable. This certification not only reinforces Coral Sea Marina’s reputation for excellence but also sets a powerful example for other marinas across Australia to follow suit.
Beyond its everyday operations, the marina is actively engaged in sustainability programs aimed at preserving the surrounding marine environment. She also highlighted that Coral Sea Marina is now part of a growing movement in the Whitsundays, with 38 ECO Certified operators, six of whom operate tours directly from the marina.
