Get ready for an exciting weekend of cycling action in Georgetown, Kentucky with the inaugural Country Boy Crit on Sunday, September 15th, 2024. This event, organized by Fount Cycling Guild, promises to be a thrilling experience for cyclists and spectators alike.
From 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the Lanes Run Business Park, adjacent to Country Boy Brewing, will transform into a vibrant cycling hub. The event features a range of races suitable for all levels, from professional riders to amateurs and children, ensuring something for everyone.
The criterium, commonly known as a crit, is a bike race conducted on a secure, traffic-free circuit. This officially recognized USA Cycling event guarantees a structured competition with certified officials and referees present to ensure fairness and safety for both competitors and viewers.
The Country Boy Crit serves as the grand finale of a four-day Talent ID Camp hosted by Fount Cycling Guild in Georgetown. This camp aims to identify and nurture top cycling talent nationwide, offering a coveted spot on their women’s national professional cycling team. The team spot includes over $25,000 in equipment and support, making it a highly sought-after opportunity.
The women’s race, scheduled for the morning, holds special significance as it concludes the selection process for the national team. Beyond the competition, the event also supports the Fount Cycling Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to fostering cycling talent in and around the Bluegrass region. All money raised through registration fees will contribute to their mission.
With 14 distinct races catering to junior, amateur, master, and professional cyclists, the Country Boy Crit promises a full day of exciting action. Spectators can enjoy the races from designated viewing areas near the starting line, and refreshments will be available from a Country Boy Brewing beer truck and The Kitchen at Country Boy Brewing, located within the park.
“We have cycled every place in the world and Georgetown ranks high on the list,” said Jennifer Wheeler, owner of Fount Cycling. “With the rolling hills, horse farms and welcoming communities, it is a wonderful place to enjoy the beautiful countryside on a bicycle.”
Adding to the excitement, Fount Cycling Guild is set to open a new performance center by mid-September. This center will provide bike fittings, physio testing, and coaching services, further solidifying Georgetown’s reputation as a cycling hub.
The Country Boy Crit joins other notable events and businesses like the Bourbon Country Burn, the Bluegrass Mountain Cup, the Horsey Hundred, and G-Town Bikes, all contributing to the vibrant cycling community in Georgetown.
“Georgetown/Scott County enthusiastically welcomes the cycling community and is excited to be able to offer so many services and events that support and empower cyclists,” said Lori Saunders, executive director at Georgetown/Scott County Tourism.
