A large coyote was spotted strolling around New York’s Central Park last weekend, marking a rare sighting of the animal in the bustling metropolis. The coyote was spotted in the Cherry Hill area of the park just north of East 72nd Street. Brett Cohn, a resident of the Upper East Side, captured footage of the animal during an early morning run. Cohn described the coyote as “definitely inquisitive” and about the size of a large German shepherd. A statement from New York City’s Parks Department confirmed the sighting and advised people to “keep their distance and avoid close contact” with the animal. The department also stated that there is “no reason to believe this particular coyote is unhealthy or poses a threat to human safety”. Coyotes are typically shy animals that avoid contact with humans, but they have been known to approach people in search of food or shelter. It is important to remember that coyotes are wild animals and should not be approached or fed. If you encounter a coyote, it is best to keep your distance and avoid any interaction.
