Creature Commandos: Update and Release Timeline

James Gunn has provided an update on the progress of the upcoming animated series, Creature Commandos. In a recent interaction with fans on social media, Gunn revealed that the animatics and voice recordings for the series have been completed.

The team is now waiting for the initial cuts of the animations before proceeding further. The exact release date of Creature Commandos is yet to be confirmed, but Gunn has indicated that they are aiming for a 2023 premiere.

Creature Commandos is based on the team created by J.M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick. The seven-episode series will feature a star-studded voice cast, including Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Indira Varma as Bride of Frankenstein, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorus, Zoë Chao as Nina Mazursky, Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot/Weasel, and Steve Agee as John Economos. Notably, Viola Davis will reprise her role as Amanda Waller in animated form.

Gunn serves as the creator and writer of the series, which is executive produced by Gunn, Peter Safran, and Sam Register. Additional producers include Lisa Hallbauer, Kip Brown, and Karina Benesh.

Creature Commandos marks the first series in the rebooted DC Universe, aptly named ‘Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.’ This phase will set the stage for future interconnected projects within the DCU.
