Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley announced on Tuesday that he will step down from his role at the end of the current season (2024-2025), after five years at the helm. Hockley, who has been with Cricket Australia for 13 years, took over as CEO in 2020 following the resignation of Kevin Roberts.
In a statement released by Cricket Australia, Hockley expressed that this was a difficult decision but felt it was the right time to pursue new challenges, particularly after a successful summer and the completion of a five-year strategic plan. He emphasized his continued commitment to the current season and pledged to support the board in finding his successor.
Cricket Australia Chair Mike Baird confirmed Hockley’s departure, acknowledging the CEO’s leadership in guiding the sport through the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Baird highlighted the significant growth and stability achieved under Hockley’s tenure and emphasized the board’s commitment to a smooth transition.
Hockley initially served as interim CEO in June 2020 before being appointed to the permanent role a year later. He joined Cricket Australia in October 2012 as the General Manager of Commercial & Marketing for the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup. Since then, Hockley has played a pivotal role within the governing body. The board has initiated the search for Hockley’s successor.
