Cronulla Sharks Star Trindall Charged with Drink-Driving and Potential Cocaine Use

Cronulla Sharks five-eighth Braydon Trindall has been charged with mid-range drink-driving while holding a suspended license. The charges stem from a roadside test conducted on Monday morning, just hours after the Sharks’ victory over the North Queensland Cowboys on Sunday evening. Trindall is currently prohibited from driving due to a recent suspension for other offenses.

In addition to the drink-driving charge, it is alleged that the roadside drug test also indicated the presence of cocaine in Trindall’s system. However, Trindall is awaiting the results of an oral fluid test for a more accurate determination. The Sharks have notified the NRL Integrity Unit of the alleged mid-range alcohol reading.

This incident is reminiscent of a similar case involving former Wests Tigers five-eighth Josh Reynolds in 2020. Reynolds initially tested positive for cocaine and methamphetamine in a roadside drug test, but later results cleared him of the substances. Police confirmed the initial result was a false positive.

Under World Anti Doping Agency rules, cocaine is considered a performance-enhancing drug but only between midnight and midnight on the day of a competition event, and only if tested by Sports Integrity Australia.

Trindall made his NRL debut for the Sharks in 2020 and has since played 57 games in the top grade. He was granted the No.6 jersey on a full-time basis this year after veteran Matt Moylan departed the club for the Super League at the end of last season.
