At WindEnergy Hamburg, CRRC Corporation Limited (CRRC), a leading Chinese provider of wind energy solutions, unveiled its latest advancements in wind turbine generator sets (WTGS), wind component supply chain management, and integrated wind-solar-hydrogen-storage systems. These developments underscore CRRC’s commitment to creating a sustainable, low-carbon future through comprehensive, integrated, and technologically advanced solutions covering the entire supply chain in the renewable energy sector.
CRRC presented its latest innovations in wind energy and engaged in discussions with global counterparts about the sector’s evolution at Stand 241 in Hall B7 of the Hamburg Messe und Congress.
Building a Comprehensive Logistics Chain Ecosystem
Leveraging its expertise in rail transportation, CRRC has established a robust equipment industrial chain centered around complete wind turbines. This chain encompasses key components such as generators, blades, tower bodies, converters, gearboxes, and transformers, generating annual sales exceeding 30 billion yuan. CRRC’s flagship complete wind turbines offer diverse power levels, ranging from 1.5 to 12 MW for onshore applications and 8 to 20 MW for offshore applications. With 20 production sites, CRRC has equipped over 260 wind farms globally, boasting a total installed capacity exceeding 13,000 units. CRRC’s wind turbine blades, suitable for both land and sea use, have been delivered in over 22,000 units, securing a top three market share globally. The company has developed five major technological platforms for wind turbines: double feed, squirrel cage, permanent magnet direct drive (PMDD), permanent magnet semi-direct drive (PMSDD), and permanent magnet transmission system (PMTS), with power ratings ranging from 600 kW to 25 MW. CRRC has supplied over 200 GW of various wind turbines to more than 2,100 wind farms worldwide. In 2023, its market share was the highest in the world.
High-End Intelligence Driven by Systems
CRRC is at the forefront of diverse technologies, including high-precision wind energy forecasting, energy guidance platforms, high-altitude towers, “one machine, one storage” solutions, cloud-edge-end collaboration-based prognostics and health management (PHM), wind turbine digital twins, blade de-icing, wind-solar-energy storage coupling, and integrated energy management systems. CRRC provides customized designs suited to various geographical and climatic conditions, offering system solutions for the complete lifecycle of wind farms.
Intelligent Operation and Maintenance
CRRC showcased its intelligent wind farm and state management solutions at the event. Its centralized remote monitoring system allows for real-time, anywhere oversight of turbine status. Equipped with fault diagnosis models and early warning, the state management system performs real-time checks. The integrated intelligent service platform, based on cloud-edge-end collaboration, and unmanned operation technology provide a comprehensive suite of intelligent operation and maintenance services across the entire lifecycle.
Superior Quality
At the exhibition, CRRC launched a new 20 MW floating offshore WTGS. With a 260-meter rotor diameter, a maximum blade tip height of 320 meters, and a swept area of 53,000 square meters (equivalent to seven standard football fields), it generates 40 kWh of electricity per rotation at full load wind speed, making it an optimal solution for deep-water offshore wind resource development.
“CRRC has pioneered the transformation of the industry with many leading innovations in recent years, including the world’s largest floating WTGS, the highest onshore wind tower body, and the most powerful permanent magnet semi-direct drive wind generator (25 MW), showcasing our technical expertise in the global wind energy industry,” commented a CRRC official.
Pursuing Green Development, Providing Low-Carbon Solutions
At the event, CRRC unveiled its integrated wind-solar-hydrogen-storage solution, which seamlessly incorporates multiple energy sources, including wind, solar, hydro, and hydrogen, to optimize energy utilization. This solution presents both technological and industrial chain advantages, spanning the entire spectrum of clean electricity from production to consumption, transportation, and distribution. It strives to establish a green, low-carbon, and sustainable energy ecosystem that encompasses energy acquisition, storage, and utilization, providing its partners with comprehensive, global, and full-process system solutions.
Looking toward the future, CRRC is committed to driving innovation in sustainable and low-carbon technologies, contributing to global environmental efforts. In collaboration with partners, the company is actively working toward a more sustainable world, setting ambitious goals to achieve carbon neutrality in its operations by 2035 and across its entire value chain by 2050.
