Crystal Palace Signs Nketiah, Arsenal Brings in Neto as Backup Keeper

Crystal Palace has made a significant addition to their squad, securing the services of forward Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal on a five-year deal. While neither club disclosed the financial details of the transfer, reports in the English media suggest that Palace paid around £30 million ($39.38 million) for the 25-year-old striker.

“It’s amazing to sign for Crystal Palace. I’m excited to get going,” Nketiah said in a statement. “Every time I come back to South London, it always puts a smile on my face, so it’s good to be back home.” Nketiah brings a wealth of experience to Selhurst Park, having scored 38 goals in 168 appearances for Arsenal. He joined the Gunners’ academy at the age of 16 and made his first-team debut in 2018.

Meanwhile, Arsenal has addressed their goalkeeping situation, bringing in experienced Brazilian goalkeeper Neto on a season-long loan from Bournemouth. The move comes after Aaron Ramsdale’s permanent transfer to Southampton. Neto, who has previously played for Juventus, Valencia, and Barcelona, has made 61 Premier League appearances for Bournemouth since joining the club in 2022.

“I’m realising a dream in my life, a dream come true, and I’m really, really happy,” Neto said. “I had two dreams as a kid to play for a football team. It was my team in Brazil, where I grew up and became a professional footballer, and also Arsenal. And now I’m realising it. I’m a really lucky person.” Neto will serve as Arsenal’s backup goalkeeper, with David Raya expected to be the first-choice keeper for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Neto will be ineligible to play in Arsenal’s opening Premier League game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, as he is set to join the squad next week. These transfers highlight the ongoing activity in the Premier League as clubs strive to strengthen their squads for the new season.
