Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered another setback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, losing their second match in four days against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday, April 23. LSG’s Marcus Stoinis was the architect of the chase, smashing an unbeaten 124 off just 63 balls to lead his team to a record-breaking victory.
CSK head coach Stephen Fleming expressed concerns at a post-match press conference, stating that his team had not yet been firing on all cylinders. He praised Ruturaj Gaikwad for his brilliant 108* off 60 balls and Shivam Dube for his 27-ball 66, but acknowledged that the team needed to improve.
Fleming also spoke about the impending departure of pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who will be leaving the IPL on May 1 due to Bangladesh Cricket Board’s decision not to extend his NOC. The coach emphasized the need to find a suitable replacement and to prepare a team that would be competitive in the remaining matches.
Despite the recent defeats, Fleming remained positive, saying, “We’re in each game and we’re asking teams to play well to beat us. We just got to get a little bit better.” CSK will be looking to turn their fortunes around in their upcoming matches and secure a place in the play-offs.
