Former Indian cricketer Virendra Sehwag has expressed concern over Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) constant changes in playing strategy, including their playing XI. He believes that these changes may lead to the team’s downfall, as has been the case in the past when CSK has made similar decisions. Sehwag made these comments while speaking to Cricbuzz, where he admitted that the team is not playing badly under Ruturaj Gaikwad’s leadership, but said that the constant changes in the team are not a ‘good sign for CSK’. He highlighted CSK’s decision to drop Rachin Ravindra from the playing XI in their match against Lucknow Super Giants as an example of these hurried decisions. Sehwag pointed out that CSK has a history of failing to make the playoffs when they make such changes, and he warned that the same could happen again this season. He said, “They aren’t playing bad, but this is the first time I have seen Chennai making constant changes. Gaikwad was opening, then Rahane was sent top of the order, now Gaikwad is back as opener and today Rachin Ravindra has been given a break. These are not good signs for CSK. Every time they have done that, they failed to make the playoffs.” Sehwag’s comments come at a time when CSK is struggling to find consistency in their performances. The team has won just two of their first five matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season, and they will need to improve their results if they want to qualify for the playoffs.
