Cuba Expresses Regret for Wrongful Remains Sent to Canada

Cuban officials have apologized and launched an investigation into the unfortunate incident involving the incorrect remains of a Canadian citizen.

Foreign Affairs Minister Bruno Rodríguez expressed his heartfelt condolences and apologies to the family and friends of the deceased and confirmed that Cuban authorities are diligently investigating the matter.

The Jarjour family, from Laval, Quebec, had initially believed their father’s remains were being returned to Canada after his sudden death in Cuba in March. However, upon arrival at the Montreal airport, they discovered the remains belonged to another individual. The remains of the unidentified person have since been returned to Russia.

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly has also expressed concern and assured the Jarjour family of Canada’s support in resolving the situation. The family remains deeply distressed and requests assistance in locating their father’s remains.

The mix-up has garnered international attention, prompting Cuban authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the error. The investigation is ongoing, and the results are expected to shed light on the cause of this regrettable incident.
