Cyberpunk 2077 has finally received official support for AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) with Frame Generation in its latest patch, 2.13. This is excellent news for PC gamers looking to push their frame rates higher. FSR 3, which has been on the horizon for a while, works on a wide range of GPUs, including NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 20 Series and up, AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 Series and up, and even Intel’s Arc lineup. Similar to NVIDIA’s DLSS 3, FSR 3 boosts performance by generating and inserting frames between those natively rendered or upscaled, effectively doubling your frame rate. This is great news for gamers with GeForce RTX 20 and 30 series cards, as NVIDIA’s DLSS 3 Frame Generation is exclusive to the RTX 40 Series due to its specialized AI hardware.
However, there are some caveats to consider. First, FSR 3’s Frame Generation cannot be combined with DLSS Super Resolution upscaling, which is a key feature of AMD FSR 3.1. This means you’re limited to using FSR upscaling, which delivers a noticeable quality dip compared to NVIDIA’s DLSS. In our testing with a GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER in 4K, DLSS 3 with Frame Generation produced a cleaner, more detailed image, while FSR 3 with Frame Generation yielded a blurrier image with visible artifacts. While not terrible, it’s worth considering the fidelity difference. You can always choose to use FSR’s native rendering mode with Frame Generation for improved fidelity, but you’ll lose the ‘double performance’ advantage.
Second, CD Projekt Red states that FSR 3’s Frame Generation requires a minimum of 60 FPS to function properly. Given Cyberpunk 2077’s demanding nature, reaching 60 FPS can be challenging. However, if you can achieve that baseline, FSR 3 can push your frame rate to 100+ FPS.
Patch 2.13 also includes support for Intel Xe Super Sampling 1.3 and allows for enabling NVIDIA’s DLAA and DLSS Ray Reconstruction simultaneously. This update is currently limited to the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077. Hopefully, console gamers won’t have to wait long, as AMD has confirmed that the Xbox Series X supports FSR 3 with Frame Generation.
