The Bay of Bengal is churning with a brewing storm, as a depression has intensified into a deep depression and is projected to transform into a cyclonic storm, dubbed Cyclone Dana. This powerful weather system is set to make landfall on India’s eastern coast on October 25th, posing a significant threat to the states of Odisha and West Bengal.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning that Cyclone Dana will be a severe cyclonic storm with wind speeds reaching 100-110 mph, gusting up to 120 mph, when it crosses the Odisha-West Bengal coastline. The entire eastern coast, stretching from Puri in Odisha to Sagar Island in West Bengal, is anticipated to experience the impact of the cyclone.
In anticipation of Cyclone Dana’s arrival, authorities in both Odisha and West Bengal have taken proactive steps to mitigate potential damage and protect their citizens. All schools in coastal districts of both states have been closed as a precautionary measure. Evacuation processes have also commenced in the coastal districts most likely to bear the brunt of the storm.
The Odisha and West Bengal governments, along with the Coast Guard and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), have mobilized their respective rescue forces to be prepared for any emergency situations that may arise due to Cyclone Dana. The combined efforts of these agencies are crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of the population living in the affected areas.
The coming days will be critical as the cyclone intensifies and approaches the Indian coast. Residents in affected areas are advised to heed all official warnings and instructions from authorities to ensure their safety during this turbulent weather event.
