Cyclone Remal Strengthens, Set to Hit West Bengal and Northeastern Region

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe warning for the northeastern region as Cyclone Remal is expected to hit West Bengal today. The deep depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal intensified into a cyclonic storm on May 25, 2024, and is moving northward. The IMD predicts that it will intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by May 26 morning and cross Bangladesh and adjoining areas by May 26 midnight with wind speeds of 110-120 kmph and gusts of up to 135 kmph. The storm is expected to bring extremely heavy rainfall to coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal, affecting states such as Tripura and other parts of the northeastern region. The IMD has advised people in affected areas to take necessary precautions and stay updated on weather forecasts.
